EXOTHERMIC COMPOUND
INTRODUCTION:
Exothermic Compound is a homogenous compound used in steel castings to provide enormous amount of heat by exothermic reaction and gives metal yield of 35 % (min.).
WORKING:
When required quantity of exothermic powder is added in the feeder (Riser sleeves and Hot Tops), it comes in contact with the liquid metal and an exothermic reaction occurs which liberates enormous amount of heat with 35 % liquid metal to overcome the short pouring as well as prolonged solidification of metal in feeder. After complete burning of exothermic powder required quantity of APC Powder should be added for the better result of exothermic compound in feeder.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
- Colour – Grey
- Appearance – Powder
APPLICATION:
This Exothermic Compound is used For Medium & higher Riser sizes (high Sensitivity) specifically for Roll Castings.
SHELF LIFE & STORAGE:
It has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture. The product should be stored at room temperature under roof & away from direct Sunlight & moisture.
STANDARD PACKING:
It is available in 50 Kg Poly carboys.
APC (Anti-Piping Compound):
INTRODUCTION:
Along with HOT TOPS, we supply requisite quantity of APC (ANTI-PIPING COMPOUND) either in powder form. APC is placed immediately in Hot Top portion as soon as liquid metal rises in Hot Top portion. As soon as the liquid metal rises in Hot Top, the powder being highly insulating, reduces the heat loss due to radiation. Due to expanding nature of material, radiation losses are substantially curtailed, thereby side chilling is reduced and good feed pattern is obtained.
APC is added to the rising metal surface as soon as it reaches in the Hot Top portion. As APC is having desired exothermic/insulating properties, it reduces the heat losses due to radiation to a great extent. Due to expanding nature of APC, better insulation is achieved thereby side chilling is reduced and good feed pattern obtained.
APC is hot topping compound in Insulating and Exothermic type Anti-Piping Compounds.
When these APC is added on the surface of liquid metal, expands & burns immediately and forms an insulating and porous crust which minimizes heat loss due to radiation. It helps to keep the metal in liquid state for longer time so that feeding efficiency of the riser is increased. The cooling rate of liquid metal in the riser is prolonged due to high insulation properties of the Hot Topping Compounds.
It keeps metal more hot in riser area for a long time for efficient feeding & minimizes casting rejection due to shrinkage, porosity & piping etc. and produces sound and pressure tight castings.
CONTINUOUS CASTING POWDER
INTRODUCTION:
Continuous Casting Powder is used in the production of finished slab and bloom through continuous casting process by providing lubrication to the inner surface of mould and right level of heat transfer. Casting powder should be tailor made to give satisfactory result as per the desired casting condition.
WORKING:
Casting powders is added continuously to the mould and it gets fused when it comes in contact with liquid metal and form various layers above the liquid metal, it gives lubrication to the mould due to which liquid metal runs without touching the mould which in turn gives finished surface of slab and bloom. However, performance of casting powder depend on various factors like mould oscillation characteristics, steel making practice, mould level control and careful design and position of Nozzle to ensure good temperature and steel flow pattern at meniscus.
TEEMING COMPOUND
INTRODUCTION:
Teeming Compound is a flux used in the production of steel ingot through bottom pouring process. It overcomes several problems such as formation of surface laps and inclusions of refractory particles. It is also known by the name Bottom Pouring Compound.
WORKING:
When it comes in contact with liquid metal it gets fused and cover the surface of liquid metal completely and forms a low melting point slag covering the meniscus with thin layer. The powder layer on the molten slag insulates the molten steel and prevent oxidation.
